This is a different kind of night from a standard DJ set. It opens with music as people arrive, settles into a live sound bath where everyone lies back and listens, then rises into an ecstatic dance with no steps to learn and nobody watching.
I have held full-moon dance floors across California and Hawaii, and the Journey carries what those nights taught me into your gathering: when to build, when to hold the room still, and when to let it fly.
Book it as its own evening or a community dance, or weave it into a wedding, a birthday or a company gathering. It is for anyone who wants to celebrate their own way, not with a cookie-cutter DJ.

The sound bath
Everyone lies back or settles in. Crystal singing bowls, gongs and other instruments, played and looped live, until the whole room is quiet and listening.
The dance
From stillness, the beat returns. A dance journey with no steps to learn: slow and grounded at first, then a build, a peak, and a floor that belongs to everyone.
The landing
The music comes back down to a quiet close, so the night ends settled and together instead of cut off at the last song.

I loop live through the sound bath and the dance journey, layering sound in real time as I play, so each Journey is built in the room for the people in it, in the spirit of live-looping artists like East Forest and FaceSoul. No two nights sound the same.

Ecstatic dance is free-form: everyone moves however the music moves them, usually without talking on the floor. Dancers come from 5Rhythms, Soul Motion, contact improvisation or no practice at all, and there is room for every one of them, whether they dance the whole way through, sway, or sit and listen.
My own home is freestyle, each dancer in their own space. If your group leans toward contact improv, I shape the set for it, and I read the room as it goes, so the energy builds when the floor is ready and comes back down together.

What is ecstatic dance?
Free-form dancing with no steps to learn: everyone moves however the music moves them, usually without talking on the dance floor. A dance journey shapes the music as one long arc, from a slow, grounded opening through a build and a peak to a quiet landing.
Is it for 5Rhythms, Soul Motion and contact improv dancers too?
Yes. Dancers who come from ecstatic dance, 5Rhythms, Soul Motion, contact improvisation or pure freestyle all find their way in, and so do people who have never danced this way. My own home is freestyle: each dancer in their own space, moving however the music moves them. If your group leans toward contact improv, I shape the set for it.
Is the sound bath played live?
Yes. I play the bowls, gongs and other instruments live and loop as I go, layering sound in real time through the sound bath and on into the dance, so each Journey is built in the room for the people in it. No two nights sound the same.
What happens at a sound bath?
Guests lie back or sit comfortably while I play crystal singing bowls, gongs and other instruments. The tones are deep and resonant, the room goes quiet, and there is nothing to do but listen. We plan the space together before the day, with room for everyone to lie down.
Do guests need to know how to dance, or have done this before?
No. There are no steps and no right way to move. Some people dance the whole time, some sway, some sit or lie down, and every one of those is part of it.
Can a sound bath or an ecstatic dance be part of our wedding or party?
Yes. A sound bath can settle everyone before a ceremony or after dinner, and an ecstatic dance journey can open up the last part of the night, inside your venue's music hours. Add a sound bath to any event I DJ in the estimate on this page, or book a short call and we'll plan the dance together.
Can it happen outdoors?
Yes. The instruments travel indoors or out: a deck over the hills, a garden, a barn or a ballroom. Outdoors we plan sound, wind and power before the day, and the estimate adds a generator if there is no outlet nearby.

Across the San Francisco Bay Area and Wine Country, from San Francisco and Marin to Napa and Sonoma, and further for the right event: I have held full-moon dance floors across California and Hawaii.
